Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Generously spray a 10x15-inch cake pan with nonstick cooking spray. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a microwave-safe bowl or a pot on the stovetop, bring water to a boil. Remove from heat and add the chai tea bag. Allow to steep for 10 minutes, then remove the tea bag. (12 minutes)

03

Step

In a large saucepan, combine the steeped chai tea, applesauce, and 1/2 cup of butter. Bring the mixture to a boil. Remove from heat and add flour, sugar, sour cream, eggs, baking soda, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk until the batter is smooth and well combined. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pan. (10 minutes)

04

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, approximately 22 to 25 minutes. (25 minutes)

05

Step

Remove the cake from the oven. (2 minutes)

06

Step

In a separate large saucepan, combine the remaining 1/2 cup butter and milk. Bring to a light boil, then remove from heat. Add confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Whisk the icing until it is smooth and glossy. (8 minutes)

07

Step

Pour the warm icing evenly over the warm cake, smoothing it across the surface. Allow the cake to cool thoroughly before cutting into 24 pieces and serving. (60 minutes)

For a richer chai flavor, use two tea bags or a concentrated chai tea. Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother batter. If you don't have sour cream, full-fat Greek yogurt can be substituted. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
